FAQ
Frequent questions on WiDom devices.
What are the advantages of installing a Widom home automation system?
The WiDom devices are designed and manufactured in Italy to be installed in the nodes of the system without modifying it. The systems created with the WiDom devices can also be controlled through new generation interfaces and the use of a regular Internet connection. A WiDom home automation system can be built in stages, with a gradual and modular system. It is possible to start with limited features and then upgrade the system any time new needs arise and/or further budget becomes available. The WiDom devices are the least energy consuming on the market.
Do the WiDom devices need batteries?
The WiDom devices do not need batteries, as they use the energy of the installation network in which they are built (junction boxes and near the loads to be checked).
Do the WiDom devices need specific switches to be controlled?
The WiDom devices are managed locally through common controls of any brand available in the market: buttons, switches, deviators and so on.
Where else can the WiDom solutions be utilized, apart from home environments?
Structures with architectural constraints, public buildings, hotels, residential units, can all take advantage of our home automation wireless solution without incurring in the disruption or interruptions typically caused by demanding building renovations and/or upgrades.
How do they differ from other traditional domotic solutions?
The WiDom system can be fully integrated in the existing systems, a guarantee that traditional wireless or cabled systems cannot offer, requiring, as they do, more or less extensive wiring adaptations.
How much does a WiDom system cost compared to other systems?
WiDom materials and installation costs are significantly lower than those of a traditional wired domotic solution. Furthermore, the WiDom solutions, even with equal material costs, have lower installation costs, compared to other wireless solutions, thanks to the simplicity of the connections, the fast installation times and because they never require wiring adaptations.
What do I need to do to configure a WiDom network?
Once the WiDom devices have been installed in the electrical system, they will be then connected to the other elements and then the parameters and associations for the desired scenarios will need to be set. For further details, we would invite you to view the installation manuals and guides available on our website.
What is a "scenario"?
By scenario, we refer to the actions performed by a device and its connected components when a specific event takes place.
What do you mean by "event'?
An event is an action affecting an external switch (press or press and hold) or a command sent through the Z-Wave network.
Does the WiDom system need other systems in order to perform?
The WiDom products are designed to guarantee a maximum level of integration with all of the Z-Wave devices. All the features of the WiDom devices are unique and independent from other products. They can be set up using any certified Z-Wave controller and once the configuration is complete, they will be able to communicate independently, without the mediation of a central system (controller). Together with the configuration interfaces, the controller will also enable the Internet connection services.
What is Z-Wave?
Z-Wave is a wireless communication protocol designed for home automation, specifically for applications in residential and light commercial environments. Its many features (low power emission; low RF, below 1Ghz- more penetrating than Wi-fi- and the support for automatic routing) make it robust and efficient. These characteristics, together with a strict certification process, guarantee a safe and reliable communication between certified devices. The Z-Wave eco-system includes over a thousand different products, manufactured by hundreds of international producers, which cover for all possible needs.
Can I install WiDom in a new system from scratch?
Yes. The WiDom solutions are designed to be installed both on new and existing systems, offering results of extremely high quality in both cases.
Would I be able to reconfigure the WiDom system in the future?
The WiDom system can be reconfigured and upgraded at any time, as no particular architectural or structural requirements would need to be met. For instance, initially you may want to control only the lights in one part of the building, while later on you may want to also manage the shutters to optimize the brightness levels and then the loads etc. At this point the system could be easily reconfigured with new scenarios related to the shutter and loads controls.
Products Universal Relay Switch
What is a WiDom Universal Relay Switch?
WiDom Universal Relay Switch is a Z-Wave certified “in wall device” based on latching relay which does not use energy when on or off. WiDOM Universal Relay Switch is an ON/OFF device that can be used as both a local and remote switch. It can be managed both through an external switch or a Z-Wave network command.
What are the WiDom Universal Relay Switch main features and functions?
It is the only Z-Wave device based on latching relay; it supports a 2 wire AC Sensing connection that allows the device to be integrated in any existing system with no further cables needed; it allows a time-controlled loads implementation, has a very low running costs due to its very low consumption.
What do you mean by “AC Sensing”?
The AC Sensing allows the system to implement a 2 wires connection where a temporary power supply interruption is registered as a command. This connection is most beneficial when, for instance, you need to install the device near a wall lamp.
What is the “Loads Protection” function for?
It protects loads that are particularly sensitive to sudden switching, (such as halogen headlights) by setting a protection time limit below which the load cannot be turned on again.
What is the “Associates Switching” function on the associated devices control?
It is a function that allows for an extra switch/button to be added to a light system, without the need to add or modify the existing wiring.
Can I use WiDom Universal Relay Switch to manage a low tension system?
Yes. WiDom Universal Relay Switch features a dry contact to control loads connected to a secondary power supply, within the limits set for the device.
What would happen in case of a power cut?
WiDom Universal Relay Switch can be configured so that, when the power comes back, the device state turns to ON, OFF or is the same as before the blackout.
Products Universal Roller Shutter
What is the WiDom Universal Roller Shutter?
WiDom Universal Relay Switch is a Z-Wave certified “in wall device” based on latching relay which does not use energy when on or off. WiDOM Universal Relay Switch is an ON/OFF device that can be used as both a local and remote switch. It can be managed both through an external switch or a Z-Wave network command.
What are the WiDom Universal Roller Shutter main features and functions?
During the utilization phase, a continuous and automatic control of the limit switches allows the calibration to remain stable. The device can memorise two favourite positions: one for the upward movements and one for the downward movements. These positions can be activated by the user through a double click on the Up or Down buttons respectively. It features an extremely useful inverting function that inverts the exits that control the motor. This function can be useful for instance during the inclusion phase, if the wiring was performed with inverted commands. Once the inversion is enabled, the receipt of an opening/closure command will make the motor move in the opposite direction to what it previously was.
What is the WiDom Universal Roller Shutter calibration for?
It is the procedure through which the systems map both the position taken by the roller shutter and the motor functioning parameters. After this procedure takes place, it will be possible to control the shutter movement and indicate the exact position it has to reach.
Do I need a specific motor for the WiDom Universal Roller Shutter?
The WiDom Universal Roller Shutter supports any AC motor with limit switches and power supply and as long as its power limits do not exceed those indicated in the guidelines.
What would happen in case of a power cut?
Once the power will be back, the shutters will have maintained their position. With the first attempt to reach a specific level (with the favourite position feature or by setting up the level), the system will automatically and independently restore the calibrating position. This procedure entails the full automatic opening or closing of the shutter and finally its positioning at the desired level.
